The real deal.” - Ron Sexsmith

Raised on the mud banks of the Avon River with a stack of her aunt's treasured LPs, Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer was recruited as a backup singer while scooping ice cream at a music festival. She can make you feel knee-to-knee with her in a room of 5 or 500 with her butterscotch vibrato, deft fingerstyle guitar, church bench piano, sly humour, and ‘70s wood-paneled warmth. Her startling knack for telling intimate stories caught the attention of Canadian musical mentors and collaborators like David Francey, Dave Gunning, and Matt Andersen. She has become a sought-after studio musician, co-writer, producer, and workshop facilitator. Terra’s self-produced second album Chasing Rabbits won Music Nova Scotia’s Folk Recording of the Year and received nominations for ECMA Folk Recording of the Year and CFMA Contemporary Singer of the Year. Her song “Feels Like Home” was named the 2021 Blues and Roots Radio International Song of the Year.  Following a full-band summer tour celebrating the golden anniversary of the music of 1971, Terra recently toured across Canada and the UK with Ben Caplan in support of their recent joint record, Old News. She will join Canadian folk icon David Francey on tour to celebrate his upcoming album.

I don’t think I am exaggerating when I say that Terra Spencer’s intimate performance took our collective breath away. It let us set aside any bits of sad or challenges we might be experiencing and we were swept away with her stories, her exquisite voice, her subtle sense of humour and her grace as a performer. ” - Susan Gesner, concert presenter
Terra Spencer is a sparklingly intelligent writer, open-hearted, insightful and eloquent. As natural a poet as ever put pen to paper and a soul as beautiful as her melodies would imply.” - David Francey
At heart, Terra Spencer is a storyteller. She plucks the kernel of joy, pain, or absurdity from human connections both extraordinary and mundane, then weaves them into her songs. She invites the audience to share the inspiration with her in the intro, then unleashes the full impact of her poetry and musicianship.” - Martha Vowles
