Crying at the Carleton: A Songwriters Circle feat. Nicole Ariana, Pillow Fite, & Terra Spencer

The Carleton, 1685 Argyle Street, Halifax, NS

Nicole Ariana is heart-on-her-sleeve, vibey alternative RnB. Her music exposes a young woman longing for lost love in dark times, trying to fill the void in dim corners and old memories. Most recently, she took home an East Coast Music Award for Fans’ Choice Video of the Year (Master of Denial). She is Music Nova Scotia’s 2022 Electronic Artist and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year.

The alt-pop duo Pillow Fite is aptly named: like the activity itself, they wield softness and make it sting. Pairing tender lyrics with catchy instrumentals and folk ballads, the genre lines get blurred in a way that keeps the project dynamic and binge-worthy while giving listeners all the feels. “An authentic mix of queerness, feelings, tasteful guitars, and empathetic arrangements…” -Tara Thorne.

Terra Spencer‘s sly storytelling and 70’s wood paneled warmth offers a knee-to-knee conversation in a room of 5 or 500. Her startling knack for telling intimate stories and her butterscotch voice quickly earned her a faithful following and led to songs recorded by Matt Andersen and David Francey. Recently her song Bricks and Mortar was named the winner of the Commonwealth Song Contest out of 20k entries.
